ABSTRACT

A paroxysm of pruritis on the dorsal aspect of the forearm corresponded with the appearance of minute white particles on the hair follicles in the same area (see Figure 13.1). Some of these hairs were scraped onto a slide with a scalpel and examined under a microscope. At 400X magnification, the white particles had a flat crystalline appearance (Figures 13.2, 13.2, 13.5 and 13.10) and under the Welch-Allyn 46000 REVA light they appeared to have areas of luminescence (see Figures 13.4, 13.6, 13.9 and 13.11).
