As discussed in earlier chapters, the essential meaning and

purpose of JIT production is to serve customer needs by

making “only what is needed, only when it is needed, and

only in the required amount.” Why, then, do we also speak

of JIT as “ideas and techniques for the total elimination of

waste”? Eliminating waste cuts costs and lower costs help

serve customer needs for lower prices.
