ABSTRACT

The consumer has voted and the Internet is now being used primarily for two things-accessing to information on healthcare and finding pornographic pictures. Functional matters also come to mind like using the Web as a replacement to the Yellow Pages and finding movie times. Add these trends to the fact that more and more responsibility for health management and the management of healthcare dollars is being put in the hands of the consumer and the result is the perfect storm of too many data in the hands of people with an inability to process the information. Economic behavior only works when the consumer has choices along with the knowledge and power to make intelligent determinations. With advertising and Internet searches, there is no real differentiation between truth, half-truths, fiction, and outright falsehoods.
