ABSTRACT

This method involves sampling for radio-iodine in its solid and gaseous states with a particulate lter in series with a chemically activated charcoal or silver-zeolite cartridge. Iodine attached to solid particles and possibly some vaporous iodine will be deposited on the particulate lter, while the remaining vaporous iodine will be adsorbed on the charcoal or silver-zeolite cartridge. The use of a silver-zeolite cartridge is the preferred methodology in order to minimize the difculty analyzing for iodine due to the presence of noble gases in the sample as would be the case following a reactor accident.
