ABSTRACT

Quantifying and predicting the mass transfer of organic chemical contaminants into plants is critical for assessing the potential human, wildlife, and ecological health risks associated with the consumption of plants growing in contaminated environments. Understanding the extent of plant uptake is also important for evaluating the use of plants as biomonitors of environmental contamination (Larsen et al., 2008) and predicting the effectiveness of phytoremediation efforts (McCutcheon and Schnoor, 2003).
