ABSTRACT

I prefer when surveillance duties are kept to one department in order to centralize skills, training, and response; a security surveillance department can work provided it is treated like a surveillance department. Most security surveillance departments fail because they are treated like stepchildren of the security department. Usually, officers are assigned to these areas with minimal (if any) training in the use of the equipment or what their duties actually are. In fact, the officers assigned to the security station are normally rotated and do not get the time they need to operate successfully.
