ABSTRACT

An arrest is a negative situation for both the person arrested and the security personnel. It should not be envisioned as fun or exciting, although it will certainly energize the security officer with adrenaline and emotions. Any time that a reasonable solution to an incident can be found, the professional security officer should utilize it before resorting to a citizen’s arrest. The supervisor then attempts to find the same solution and guide his or her subordinates to creative solutions other than arrest. An arrest by a security officer of an individual at a casino carries no more weight than a private citizen’s arrest anyone can make in any jurisdiction.
