ABSTRACT
Introduction There are many different types of healthcare providers, ranging from an individual physician or nurse to large national chains of hospitals and clinics. The different payment systems must address a wide array of services as well as highly variable organizational structures. This chapter briefly discusses some of the main types of healthcare providers and associated organizational structuring. Note that the recognition of certain structures often revolves around the Medicare program. There can also be state-level concerns as well as tax complications.
