ABSTRACT

Authentication comes from the Greek word auqentiko´V, which means real or genuine and “from the author” (authentes). Authentication is the process in which Oracle attempts to identify your identity when you logon to the database and decides whether to allow it. Authentication is the fi rst step in any access to the database-it is the front gate to your castle. If you have no way to identify a party making the connection or there is a way to attack the authentication scheme and fake an identity, then nothing else matters.
