In this chapter, I’ll explain how to identify the CSFs that can help your organization successfully tackle its goals and objectives. We’ll start by examining Rockart’s original CSF method.3,2
The original CSF method is a step-by-step method for identifying CSFs; it is not an algorithm, however, in that no defined number of iterations will lead to an exact answer. Although articles, papers, and a primer have been written on this method, it can be complicated, and includes numerous requirement matrices, assumptions, and scenarios. Given adequate time and with the right people on board, the original CSF method can work for your organization. We’ll discuss the original CSF method in the paragraphs below, followed by the five-phase CSF method. Later, we’ll discuss a very simple method that can satisfy 90% of your applications needs.
