Sincethe1980s,therehasbeenadeclineintherateofgrowthintheworld’sirrigatedland.By thestartofthetwenty-rstcentury,totalirrigatedacreagereachedaconstantvalue.Thestabilizationintotalirrigatedacreageisdueprimarilynottolackofadditionalsuitablearablelandor nancial resources, but rather to the lack of new developable water supplies in most of the arid and semiarid regions that can most benet from irrigation.
