ABSTRACT

To understand what component is needed and where it is used, we have to build a representation of what the flow looks like from the customer all the way back through the supply chain to the raw material supplier (see Figure 4.1). To see the whole picture, you first have to draw, or map, the value stream. The current state value stream map will help you understand your process families, constraints, capacity, and capability to support the end customer. By mapping the current state, you will learn what you are capable of producing by focusing on the door-to-door flow of material and information while breaking down each process capability. You will also identify where your bottlenecks are in the flow.
