CREDIT RISK is the risk of financial loss resulting from default or movement in thecredit quality of issuers of securities (in the company’s investment portfolio), debtors (e.g., mortgagors), or counterparties (e.g., on reinsurance contracts, derivative contracts, or deposits given) and intermediaries, to whom the company has an exposure (IAIS, 2004).
