ABSTRACT
Water rights (surface and groundwater), mineral rights, etc., are different from property rights and often are completely separate from each other. Each state has jurisdiction over its water, but in general in the U.S. two types of water rights exist. They are:
1. Riparian water rights 2. Prior appropriation water rights.
