ABSTRACT
The pharmaceutical space represents one of the fastest growing sectors in the investment world given the steady and upward trajectory of healthcare spending. If left unchecked, spending could reach approximately 20% of the United States gross domestic product (GDP) by 2017 (Healthcare Costs, 2009). By way of reference, healthcare spending exceeded $2 trillion in 2006, representing 16% of the U.S. GDP (Healthcare Costs, 2009).
