Fungi that have evolved a mostly singlecelled lifestyle and reproduce asexually by producing buds or occasionally by ssion (in the same way that bacteria divide). Yeasts grow well in liquid environments, especially nutritionally rich ones, and some can grow anaerobically using a fermentative metabolism. Some yeasts can adopt a lamentous, mold-like form, just as some molds can grow in a yeast-like form. (See fungus.)
