ABSTRACT
Fiber-optic communication has been growing extensively in recent years. A great number of optical fibershavebeenlaidinallpartsoftheworld,dramaticallyincreasingthecapacityandqualityoftelecommunications.However,traditionalopticaltransmissionsystemsarestillinadequatetocarrythe heavytrafficresultingfromtheexponentialincreaseofthebandwidthdemand.Fortunately,thewavelengthdivisionmultiplexing(WDM)techniqueprovidesaneffectiveandlow-costwaytoincreasethe capacity by tens or hundreds of times in an optical transmission system.
