ABSTRACT
In the introduction of this book, we introduced the concept of optical-printed circuit board (O-PCB) andthatofVLSIphotonics.Figure17.1showsaconceptualschematicdiagramoftheO-PCBandVLSI photonics.Itisaviewofalargegreenplanarboardonwhichmicro/nanoscaleopticalwiresanddevices ofdiversefunctionsareinterconnectedandintegratedtoformopticalandphotoniccircuits.Inthis chapter,wedescribetheprocessoffabricatingO-PCBasaplatformforVLSIphotonics,anddescribe technological approaches that have been taken toward that goal.
