ABSTRACT

Recording the procedures to be followed in a standard is one thing; ensuring that they are complied with at all times is another, and it’s at least as important. Standardization and compliance are inextricably linked, and a standard that contains no provisions for compliance will have no effect at all. We have all seen the folders with procedures and operating instructions on the shelves of the quality department, which no one ever consults. The choice of the form used for the working agreement depends on the level to which this agreement must be complied with. If a departure from the standard can result in a fatal accident, it is essential to ensure full compliance, thereby simply eliminating unsafe alternatives. There are other factors at play as well, such as the level of flexibility employees show in complying with standards.
