ABSTRACT

How do you put the time you save through kaizen events to good use? The time saved only really works to your advantage if you have more time available for value creation, giving you the opportunity to perform valuable work for which there was previously no time. While the number of employees remains the same (as should the costs), time that was previously used to maintain the waste in a process is now used for valuable activities, which means you get more value for the same investment (i.e., in terms of time and money). However, if you do not end up creating more value, but do manage to eliminate waste and eventually win more time, how can you benefit from this to the fullest? The time you gain also could mean you require fewer staff and can create the same value while requiring less time and money; in other words, a leaner government.
