ABSTRACT
We begin with a very brief survey of BN applications developed by others, especially medical applications and environmental applications, in order to show some of the variety of uses and BN models which are to be found in the literature. The enormous increase over the past 10 years in the number of journal research publications about BNs, or using BNs, is shown in Table 5.1.1
We then describe five of our own applications: 1. The first is a medical BN application namely predicting risk of cardiovascular
heart disease, built by adapting epidemiological models in the literature. 2. The second application models native fish abundance in a water catchment re-
gion, an example of how BNs are being used for ecological and environmental applications.
