ABSTRACT
Available time = total time less breaks, meetings, etc. (weekly meetings are amortized across the days, i.e., 25 min meeting per week = 5 min per day)
Capacity = available time ÷ complete time Complete time = labor value added + labor non-value
added + machine value added + machine non-value added (note labor time has to be in addition to machine time, not done in parallel)
Cycle time = amount of labor each operator has assuming line is balanced (if there is no machine bottleneck)
Cycle time = available time ÷ factory demand Cycle time = total labor time ÷ number of operators or
staff (if there is no machine bottleneck)
Daily output = available time ÷ cycle time Hourly output = 3600 sec/hr ÷ the cycle time in seconds Interruptible work in process (WIP) = cycle time of
the machine ÷ cycle time or Takt time of the line. If it is non-interruptible then double interruptible quantity
Kanban sizing = (total amount needed to cover replenishment time (includes production and delivery) + safety stock + buffer stock yield) ÷ container size
Number of operators required = total labor time ÷ cycle time
Takt time = available time ÷ customer demand Total labor time = labor value-added + labor non-
value-added time
