ABSTRACT
Punching shear in slabs is a two-dimensional analog to shear in beams. However, punching shear is much less critical than beam shear. Failure of slabs by punching occurs mainly in the presence of very highly concentrated loads (e.g., wheel loads on bridge slabs, or at columns).
