ABSTRACT
The transfer of stresses between a reinforcing bar and the surrounding concrete is a very complex problem. Only a few attempts have been made to create a rational theory, cf. Ferguson and Briceno [69.7], Tepfers [73.3], and Esfahani and Rangan [96.7]. Hitherto, designers have therefore had to rely on empirical rules based on experiments.
