ABSTRACT

The main focus of this book is on the evaluation of raters’ agreement and reliability. We demonstrate that both measures are related to the subject of error in measurements. Throughout the book we emphasize application in medical and epidemiological research. It is known that some of these measurements are carried out on a continuous scale (e.g., blood pressure levels, brain size, body mass index, tumor size, etc.) or on a categorical scale (e.g., presence of a condition, severity of illness, tumor type, etc.). Another type of variable is count (e.g., the number of polyps in the colon, the number of freckles on the face, the number of typographical errors per page in a manuscript, etc.).
