ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter, we described a number of methods for measuring and characterizing polarized light in terms of the Stokes polarization parameters. We now turn our attention to measuring the characteristics of the three major optical polarizing elements, the polarizer (diattenuator), retarder, and rotator. As in the previous chapter, the emphasis is on null, or manual, methods. Automated methods are addressed in Chapter 17.
