ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a brief overview of basic human skills and abilities that will aid the designer of medical devices to better understand the guidance provided in subsequent chapters in this book. These basic human skills and abilities and their interrelationships are shown in Figure 2.1. The organization of this chapter follows the ow of how humans sense, perceive, process, and respond to the world around them, as shown in the gure that portrays the basic inputs and outputs of the human information processing system.
