ABSTRACT

An operational and loss prevention audit program will measure pro- ciency for each segment of the business audited, will uncover high-risk transactions that might develop into fraud investigations, and will expose weaknesses that can be remedied through employee training. A vice president of loss prevention once told me that auditing store operations and raising awareness of loss prevention would not be effective in uncovering theft because these methods would in themselves help prevent store thefts. He thought was that audits are rote and repetitive and if effective, prevented instead of detected.
