ABSTRACT

Most loss prevention practitioners will enter an organization that has an existing loss prevention or asset protection department-not that these departments function ¯awlessly and that no improvements can be added. It is a much larger undertaking to enter a company without any sort of existing loss-prevention department. The seasoned practitioner will need to utilize all of their expertise and experience to make is successful. Some seasoned loss prevention professionals are willing to go to smaller organizations such as a convenience-store or drugstore chains if they feel they have the chance to move up to director or vice president quickly. This section of the book will help those starting a new department from scratch, which is rare, or those who have been hired to restructure an existing department into an effective and efcient organization.
