Advantages and Limitations e advantages and limitations of integrating imaging into forensic autopsy in speci—c causes of death are discussed in remaining chapters of this book. We found that crosssectional imaging adds objective, reproducible anatomic data to autopsy. e ability to review and reconstruct the
anatomic —ndings at the time of autopsy at a later date is invaluable. When used as an adjunct to autopsy, crosssectional imaging provides an anatomic overview of the body prior to dissection. Abnormalities are localized more ežciently when the images are reviewed prior to autopsy; anatomic areas that are dižcult to access at dissection are evaluated on images; complex fracture patterns are better visualized; and occult injury may be detected.
