ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will discuss concepts and methods borrowed from the Toyota Motor Company andotherorganizationalgreatswhohaverecognizedconsistentandreliableworkasastandardofsuccess. Inconsiderationofthebrevityofasinglechaptertohighlightthiswork,referencestotheToyota ProductionSystem(TPS)for this chapter onlywillincludeaccumulatedpracticesofLean,SixSigma, andotherprogramsdevelopedfromTPS-basedconcepts.Applicationstohealthcarewithcasestudiestoillustratethetechniques,talentengaged,andoutcomeswillsupportargumentsregardingthe measurablevalueofimprovingworkdesign,using TPS/Lean thinking.Ÿischapterwillfocusondeeply understandinghowworkcurrentlyhappensthroughtaskanalysisandvaluestreammapping,and redesigning work to capture currently wasted potential using the same methods.
