In slightly more than 50 years, organ transplantation has progressed from a rare and experimental medicalproceduretoasuccessful,wide-scaletreatmentforend-stageorganfailure.Yet,itremainsa formofmedicaltreatmentthatisuniquelyinterdependent,bothtoobtainneededorgansandtoensure that these organs are used effectively and efficiently for the greatest possible benefit.
