ABSTRACT
Multiplesubdisciplines,namedfortheintendeduserofthedevelopedtechnology,arecontained withinthefieldofhealthinformatics.Althoughnodefinitivetaxonomyexists,citedsubdisciplines includebioinformatics,clinicalinformatics,consumerhealthinformatics,dentalinformatics,imaging informatics,nursinginformatics,pharmacoinformatics,andpublichealthinformatics(Shortliffeand Blois,2001;Hersh,2002;AmericanMedicalInformaticsAssociation,2008).Asreflectedinthetitles ofthesesubdisciplines,HITsareusedbyhealthpractitioners,patients,andpolicymakersinclinical, home, and community settings.
