ABSTRACT
Hospital patient safety teams can predict dangers. Hospitals must implement safeguards and barriers. Awareness of the need for barriers and safeguards is also needed prior to procuring newly introduced devices such as
patient monitoring systems, surgical robots, ventilators, defibrillators, and dialysis equipment. Of major concern is the software in the devices. The FDA recalls between 1999 and 2005 show that one in three devices that use software were recalled due to software errors [2].
