ABSTRACT

Documenting the testing aids the test engineering group in a number of ways: plans provide structure; reports record results; utilization and efficiency measurements provide data for quotations. The purpose of the test plan is one of the most important items in the documentation. Documenting the test execution with a test report provides traceability of the actions conducted on the product. The review of the testing documentation indicated that the variation of the product with the parameter disabled was not tested, and the test department adjusted for this in future testing. An error in the test procedure is similar to errors from the operator or from the equipment. The unit under test is not causing the problem—something external to the unit under test becomes an issue. Software tests run the gamut; however, there are some large categories of software testing: black-box testing; white-box testing; and unit, component, system integration, and system testing.
