ABSTRACT

Introduction In the last chapter, we discussed the process of primary care and patient centered health care (PCHC). In this chapter, we discuss the applications of information technology (IT) as it applies to healthcare in general. By all accounts, the IT intervention in healthcare has the most probability for success in primary care. However, practitioners are not 100% convinced that this infusion of the new technology will be as successful as predicted. ˜us, we see the following as we move toward health IT adoption:

◾ Industry leaders are pushing for health IT as the solution to quality and cost issues, but successful examples are few and inconsistent.
