ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This study examines similarities and differences in Yoga and Tai-Chi exercise. A total of 36 voluntary undergraduate female students were categorized as three treatment groups. The two experimental groups received a regular schedule onYoga and Tai-Chi training (40 minutes each time, three times a week) for ten weeks. Fasting blood samples were drawn before and after the 10-week training program in order to determine the antioxidant capacity which are superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx) and oxidative stress measures which are creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and malondialdehyde (MDA). The study suggests that Tai-Chi and Yoga training were found to be an effective way to improve many fitness measures over a ten weeks period. Tai-Chi training was also found to be significantly better than Yoga training in enhancing certain measures of fitness.
