ABSTRACT

The presence of musculoskeletal burden tasks and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) of industrial workers had not been well-known until 2003 in Korea. But in July, 2003, the Korean occupational safety & health law which was changed to add the proprietor duty in preventing work-related MSDs of workers to the business owner’s responsibility became in effect. Since then WMSDs have become a big issue in Korea. The manufacturing industry especially, auto and shipping industry, complied with this law early in 2003 since they have been blamed for causing overexertion in most time. But in these days it is spreading out to non-manufacturing industries gradually. In this study, Korean WMSD laws and recent problems related to this law in Korea are introduced and changes are proposed to resolve these problems.
