ABSTRACT

Why are DCs so important to the anti-cancer T cell response? Suppose you are observing a battle from one combatant’s side, say, the cellular immune system. The other side is a developing cancer. The two armies have many soldiers with specifi c functions. There are the enlisted men (T cells), who are on the front lines doing the actual fi ghting, and then there are a series of commanders. Some of these commanders are back at headquarters and some of them are in the fi eld with the grunts, as they are called. There are two of these fi eld commanders. One is in back of the front line and the other is in the fi eld where the fi ghting is going on.
