ABSTRACT

Sulfate is a divalent polyanion having the formula 2-4SO . It is a common contaminant, occurring widely in wastewaters, wastes, and potable waters. e sulfate in water may be analyzed by

Method 1 is suitable for measuring low concentrations of 2-4SO , at less than 1 ppm level. e lower limit of detection is about 0.1 mg/L. Gravimetric method, on the other hand, is reliable only at a relatively high concentration range (>10 mg/L). e turbidimetric method is applicable in the concentration range of 1-40 mg/L. Samples with high 2-4SO concentrations may be accordingly diluted prior to analysis.
