ABSTRACT

Kast cylinder compression test, a test to quantify the brisance of an explosive. An unconfined cartridge (enveloped in paper or thin metal sheet) acts upon a copper or lead cylinder (crusher). The loss of height of the crusher is a measure of the brisance of the test explosive. The brisance value in this test is the product of charge density, specific energy and detonation rate.
