ABSTRACT
S-waves, are hitting an interface between solid-gas or solid-fluid. The P-wave or compression wave will be reflected as both a tensile wave and compression wave, and if the amplitude is large enough the tensile wave can detach pieces from the solid material. This effect is called scabbing. It is recommended to call the fragmentation created by this mechanism for scabbing fragmentation.
