ABSTRACT

The present study was designed to determine experimentally in a biofilter and in a biotrickling filter a) the biodegradation rate of methanol at different operating conditions, and b) the specific growth rate at those operating conditions. The pollutant biodegradation rate was determined in a laboratory scale biofilter and a laboratory scale biotrickling filter. Models were fitted to the experimental data of pollutant biodegradation occurring in both types of biofilters. The models tested were based on the Michaelis-Menten and Haldane models.
