ABSTRACT

Presence of power plants, heavy traffic, high density of population etc., in Prishtina region, is the main sources of SO2, NO2x and dust. The power plant “Kosova A and B” have a total effective capacity 1355 MW. “Kosova B” discharges approximately 260 g/s SO2, 556 g/s NOx and 376 g/s dust. Only one unit of Kosova B with capacity 200MW emits about 25 tones of dust and ash per hour, which is 74 times more than the EU standards for dust pollution (WHO 2002). This pollution becomes more severe in regard of traffic pollution and mineral exploitation. All these pollutants cause the chemical and physical changes in tree bark, which is a natural habitat of epiphytic lichens.
