ABSTRACT

Developments of panel methods have allowed a better representation of three dimensional effects than strip theory allows and they have become popular to apply for ships but in particular for offshore structures, in which speed effects do not require being modelled. One such code is WAMIT, which is based on theoretical aspects described for example in Lee and Newman (2004). WAMIT incorporates several features including the ability of determining motions of stationary floaters in deep and shallow water. Therefore this code has been adopted in the present study to assess the effect of shallow water on the dynamic behavior of a tanker.
