ABSTRACT

Incremental part of the procedure manifests in gradual increase of imaginary curvature of the ship hull girder. After each increment of the curvature a new neutral axis position is iteratively defined. At the end of each step, the total hull girder bending moment is calculated by summing the contributions of all internal forces of each effective individual longitudinal element of a transverse section to the total bending moment. The result of the procedure is the bending moment M versus curvature χ and the ultimate bending moments are selected as maxima of the curves, negative sign for sagging and positive sign for hogging condition.
