ABSTRACT
These methods for positioning subdivision and design criteria were all based on evaluating the consequences of certain deterministic damage. It was Wendel (1960, 1968) who first presented the concept of a probabilistic method for designing ship subdivision. This method recognized that ship survival after damage is affected by numerous uncertainties related to damage extent, damage location, loading condition, permeabilities and wave and wind conditions.
