April Fool

I first knew Martin Gardner when we were both students at the University of Chicago. Martin is a great April fooler; for example, on one April 1st an article by him appeared in Scientific American in which Martin claimed such fabulous things as that Leonardo da Vinci was the inventor of the flush toilet, and that, in chess, a winning move for White is pawn to king’s rook 4!
