ABSTRACT

One is tempted to think that, in later life, this shocked awareness of the immensity of space was never too far from Bruno’s mind. It was decisive for his thought; he kept it alive with all of its elemental force and a empted to infl uence others to share his vision. Even before he was able to support

his convictions with astronomical data, he was the fi rst to assert that the sun is just another star among countless others, all projecting their light to us from the farthest reaches of outer space, from a distance so great that their blazing light has dwindled to li le more than pinpricks in the sky.
