ABSTRACT
It’s a nice quote, but Picasso clearly didn’t understand the potential of
computers when he made that remark. The pioneering computer scientist
R. W. Hamming was closer to the mark when he observed: “The pur-
pose of computing is insight, not numbers.” Still, like any powerful tool,
the computer can be dangerous if not used with care. This chapter is the
obligatory customer protection warning.
